30 October 2024As announced at the closing ceremony of the first Tasveer Film Market on October 18, 2024, Tasveer has proudly revealed the latest recipients of the Tasveer Film Fund. Now in its fifth year with continued support from the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, the Tasveer Film Fund continues to champion filmmakers across North America who tell stories from South Asian perspectives, offering support for short films across three distinct categories, focusing on narrative shorts.
This year's panel of judges featured renowned film industry professionals, including Ameet Shukla (Head of Content, One Community), Utkarshini Vashishtha (Writer, Gangubhai Katiawhad), Jungyoon Kim (Film Development & Production Executive, Blumhouse), Karim Lakhani (Head of Development, TV & Film, in & thru), Tenten Wei (Head of Studios, EST Studios), and Rita Meher (Founder, Tasveer Film Festival & Market). The Tasveer Film Fund was managed by Anushree Shukla and Uzma Khan.
“On behalf of the jury and as the market director, I extend heartfelt congratulations to all the incredible filmmakers participating in this year’s Tasveer Film Fund, sponsored by Netflix,” said Rita Meher. “This fund provides essential resources and opportunities for South Asian creators, empowering them to bring their stories to life. We look forward to seeing these projects completed and sharing them with audiences around the globe.”
Each winning filmmaker will receive a $25,000 grant for production, alongside mentorship and support from Tasveer to transform their scripts into films. These projects will have their world premieres at the 20th Tasveer South Asian Film Festival in 2025.

Moitri Ghosh By Design LGBTQIA+ Narrative Short
Logline: A couple travels to Atlanta to care for their newborn niece, but tensions rise as one partner is eager to announce their plans to have kids while the other reveals she may not want children at all, forcing them to confront the future of their relationship.
Moitri Ghosh, an Indian-born, Atlanta-based director, blends her background in psychology, design, and production. With experience at Ogilvy and MasterClass, she transitioned to directing, earning recognition as an AFI DWW+ Alternate. Currently, she is completing her short Choose You and fundraising for her next project, By Design.
Meera Angelica Joshi The Sale Logline: In 1993, California, a young immigrant mother has a dream to start a new life for herself and her family. The first step is to make her first encyclopedia sale.
Meera Angelica Joshi is a filmmaker and documentarian exploring human connections and our relationship with the planet. Born in New Zealand, raised in Australia, and trained at NYU, her work spans international short films, commercial projects, and scripted stories. Now with Darling Street Pictures, she continues to create narrative, documentary, and commercial projects.
Karan Sunil Yakshi Logline: An Indian American man on a work trip seeks solace in an idyllic tropical homestay in South India, unaware of the lurking presence of a demon, which raises the question of whether the man is the true visitor or the one being visited.
Karan Sunil is an Indian-American writer and director based in LA. His work spans film, TV, and comedy, including projects with Invention Studios, Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, and Hulu. A Film Independent fellow, Karan uses genre storytelling to explore the humor and challenges of living between cultures.
