Netflix has announced a new talent cultivation program in Taiwan, developed in partnership with Yiyi Pictures and the Producers Association of Taiwan. This is the first initiative in Taiwan to provide integrated training in script development and film production, helping emerging talent build the skills needed to bring creative ideas to life on screen. Supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, the program features two core tracks: Practical Script Development and Film Production Trainee Cultivation. Together, they offer aspiring creatives direct experience and a way into the entertainment industry, reinforcing Netflix’s commitment to investing in local storytelling, industry collaboration, and Chinese-language content.

Maya Huang, Head of Chinese Language Content at Netflix, shared: "Netflix has long invested in Taiwan, consistently identifying promising Chinese-language stories and supporting the growth of local creative talent. Following last year’s successful Writers’ Room Workshop with TAICCA, we’re thrilled to launch this new initiative in partnership with Yiyi Pictures and the Producers Association of Taiwan. With a focus on both storytelling and production, we hope to cultivate creators with strong fundamentals and bold creative visions.”

Practical Script Development with Yiyi Pictures: Equipping Writers for the Industry

The five-month script development program, based on the writers’ room model, is centered on the role of the writer’s assistant and builds key skills in character development, script structure, and story-building. Through simulated production scenarios, participants gain first-hand experience with industry workflows that prepare them to join the creative field. Known for titles like Us Without Sex, Yiyi Pictures brings deep experience in market-driven content development and created Yiyi Class, one of Taiwan’s few knowledge-sharing platforms in the film sector. Their longstanding dedication to talent development makes them an ideal partner for this initiative.

Yiyi Pictures Producer Yvonne Huang noted: “We’re honored to partner with Netflix on this forward-looking training program. Through a mentorship system and hands-on curriculum, we aim to support emerging writers in transforming their ideas into compelling, market-ready stories, laying a strong foundation for their creative careers.”

Film Production Trainee Cultivation with the Producers Association of Taiwan: Training Tomorrow’s Production Leaders

The film production track combines theory with practical training across production workflows, project coordination, and on-set leadership. Participants will join workshops led by industry experts and Netflix’s content and production teams, alongside opportunities to shadow live productions. The goal is to build versatile producers with cross-disciplinary knowledge and leadership potential to shape the future of Taiwan’s film industry.

Chang Ya-ting, Chairperson of The Producers Association of Taiwan, shared: “This program represents the collective effort of the film industry and other sectors. By providing hands-on experience and professional mentorship, it allows participants to deepen their understanding of production in real-world settings. We look forward to seeing a new wave of creative and capable production talent emerge from this initiative.”

A Broader Commitment to Local Talent

From acclaimed hits like Light the Night and Copycat Killer to Forget You Not, Chinese-language productions from Taiwan have seen a surge in popularity in recent years. Netflix continues to invest in this momentum by working with local partners to bring more stories to global audiences. In June, Netflix held a Post Production Workshop in Taiwan, featuring the senior post editor of Squid Game, who shared how technology and creativity work together to make compelling stories for streaming platforms. The Taiwan Future Talent Cultivation Program builds on these efforts and empowers Taiwanese creators across the entire production pipeline, laying the groundwork for long-term industry growth and a more dynamic creative ecosystem.
