'Sister Death' will open the Sitges Film Festival 2023

The International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia today revealed that 'Sister Death', Paco Plaza's return to the universe of Veronica, will be the opening film of the 56th edition of the event, to be held from October 5 to 15, 2023.

In the words of the director, Paco Plaza: "I've been attending the Sitges Festival since 1991, so it's easy to guess what a privilege it is for me to participate another year, and especially with the opening film. Sitges is the Wimbledon of horror, the center of the world for the entire horror film community on a planetary level, and for "Sister Death" to be the opening film is an honor that fills me with happiness. It is a very special film for me in many ways, an expansion of the universe of "Veronica", with which it has many connections, but it is a film with its own nature and very different from its predecessor, a film of a dark luminosity around a character very dear to me".

The film, scripted by Jorge Guerricaechevarria (Hasta el cielo, Las leyes de la frontera), stars Aria Bedmar (El Silencio, Dime quien soy), Almudena Amor (El silencio, La abuela), Maru Valdivielso (Verónica, Historias para no dormir), Luisa Merelas (Quien a hierro mata, Elisa y Marcela), Chelo Vivares (30 monedas, Desaparecidos), Consuelo Trujillo (Verónica, Adiós) and newcomers Sara Roch, Olimpia Roch, Adriana Camarena, Martina Delgado and Claudia Fernandez Arroyo, and produced by El Estudio, a production company formed by Enrique López Lavigne (Verónica, La abuela), Pablo Cruz (Fear the Walking Dead, El baile de los 41) and Diego Suarez Chialvo (Our Ladies, Slaughterhouse Rulez).

Enrique López Lavigne highlights: “Opening Sitges is always a responsibility, like that of producing a film from the universe of "Verónica" for Netflix and for the world. In this feature film, enveloping, mysterious, deeply indebted to the genre we like the most, that of dark corridors and secrets whispered in the ear, the stakes are high and so is our love for fantastic cinema.”

'Sister Death' will premiere soon, only on Netflix. The first images are already available.
