First Netflix Italian original doc-series premièring on December 30th
SanPa: Sins of the Savior is the first Netflix Italian original doc-series and will première globally on December 30th.
Through contributors’ interviews and archive images, the 5-episodes doc-series tells the controversial story of the rehab community of San Patrignano, founded by Vincenzo Muccioli in 1978 in Coriano, in the Province of Rimini.
SanPa: Sins of the Savior, depicts twenty years of the biggest rehab commune in Europe, started by the charismatic Vincenzo Muccioli in 1978, till 1995, the year of his death. The doc-series portrays the social, economic and political context of that period when the streets of Italy were inundated by heroin. An entire generation of youth was threatened. Vincenzo Muccioli came forward and, on the one hand, was heralded as offering a solution to drug addiction, on the other hand, he caused media attention due to the trials addressing his controversial therapeutic methods. An opportunity to retrace, or discover, a story that marked a particular moment in Italy.
The doc-series in 5 episodes was created through 25 contributors, 180 hours of interviews with images taken from 51 different archives to restore the story in a factual and accurate way.

SYNOPSIS
SanPa: Sins of the Savior tells the story of the rehab commune founded by the charismatic Vincenzo Muccioli, from its beginnings in 1978, to its rise as the biggest rehab centre in Europe. Interviews are intercut with archives to recount the salient moments in the history of the commune and its founder. He was loved for the values he represented, such as the fight against marginalisation, the hope of recovery and the reinstatement into society with a better life for thousands of youngsters that went through the commune of San Patrignano. However, Vincenzo Muccioli was also challenged for the methods used to keep addicts away from drugs, such as the use of chains.
