Samsung and Netflix Celebrate Galaxy Z Fold8 Series Launch With Free 'The East Palace' Themes

To mark the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8, Netflix and Samsung Electronics are running an event featuring signature themes from The East Palace. Free of charge, users can download five themes and wallpapers, along with icons, capturing the atmosphere of the East Palace and its signature pond — including Kkeomeoksari, the fan-favorite character often dubbed the "Joseon-era Groot." The themes will be available via the Galaxy Store until September 10, and are available to both new and existing Galaxy users.

The East Palace, released on July 17, is a mystery-packed period series that follows Gu-cheon, a man with the ability to cross into the world of ghosts, and Saeng-gang, a court lady who can hear the voices of spirits, as they are summoned by the king to uncover a curse haunting the East Palace.

Since its release, The East Palace has ranked #2 on the Global Top 10 Non-English TV list for two consecutive weeks, and reached the Top 10 in 69 countries, including Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, and India.

Unveiled on July 22, the Galaxy Z Fold8 lineup is designed to optimize the viewing of Netflix shows. By changing the screen aspect ratio from 10:9 to 4:3, the device reduces the black bars above and below video content, filling the entire display with content for a more immersive viewing experience.

AI features have also been enhanced. "Now Brief" suggests relevant information and content based on the user's schedule and device usage. When Netflix appears among the recommendation cards, it surfaces recommended titles or shows exactly where users left off, letting users jump straight back in. Recommendations also adapt to context — for example, users about to travel for the weekend may see "Travel Ready" content suggestions. The integrated search feature "Samsung Finder" lets users search for a title and quickly find related content, without needing to open the Netflix app directly.

Samsung and Netflix have partnered since 2019, finding new ways to bring value to users of both services. Recent theme-download promotions for globally popular titles such as Stranger Things and KPop Demon Hunters have offered fans an experience to blend their favorite shows into everyday life.

The East Palace special theme and wallpapers will be available for download starting at 10:00 AM local time on July 30.
