Partnering With the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School to Support the Next Generation of Creators in Israel

Over the past 30 years, the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School has played a key role in nurturing some of Israel’s brightest lights and fostering its rich creative ecosystem. That’s why we’re sponsoring the school’s first annual Series Lab. 

The Series Lab, similar to Sam Spiegel’s world-renowned Film Lab, is open to writers and producers based in Israel who have demonstrated extraordinary potential. The Series Lab will represent a broad range of cultures, perspectives and languages, just like our series. So, applicants are invited to submit projects in a variety of languages including Arabic, Amharic, Russian, Yiddish, and Hebrew. Because great stories shouldn’t just reflect one viewpoint or one type of journey. 

The successful applicants will take part in an extensive three-month development and mentoring process by industry luminaries including Jill Condon, professor, writer and producer on Friends.  At the end of the program, one team will be selected for the Netflix Series Development Award. The award will give the winning creatives the financial security to further develop their series project. 

Israel has long been a creative powerhouse when it comes to film and TV. Ultimately, we want the Series Lab to find up-and-coming local talent who will create the next Fauda, Shtisel, or Hit & Run  — Israeli stories that have been embraced globally.

כבר 30 שנה שבית הספר לקולנוע וטלוויזיה סם שפיגל ממלא תפקיד מרכזי בטיפוח כישרונות וכוכבים מהמעלה הראשונה בישראל, ובפיתוח ועיצוב תעשיית הקולנוע העשירה במדינה. זו הסיבה שאנו נותנים חסות למעבדת הסדרות השנתית הראשונה של בית הספר.

מעבדת הסדרות, בדומה למעבדת הסרטים המפורסמת של סם שפיגל, פתוחה לתסריטאים ומפיקים ישראלים בעלי פוטנציאל יוצא דופן. סיפורים טובים משקפים שלל נקודות מבט, וכך גם מעבדת הסדרות תייצג מגוון רחב של תרבויות ושפות, בדיוק כמו מגוון התכנים שלנו. לכן, המועמדים מוזמנים להגיש פרויקטים בערבית, אמהרית, רוסית, יידיש ועברית. 

המתקבלים למעבדה ייכנסו לתכנית פיתוח בת שלושה חודשים בה יהנו בין היתר ממנטורינג של בכירים בתעשייה, ביניהם ג'יל קונדון, מרצה, מפיקה ותסריטאית בסדרה "חברים". בסיום התוכנית ייבחר צוות אחד ל"פרס פיתוח סדרות של נטפליקס". הפרס יעניק לזוכים את הביטחון הכלכלי להמשיך ולפתח את הסדרה שלהם.

בכל הקשור לקולנוע וטלוויזיה, ישראל כבר מזמן מעצמה יצירתית. לכן, בסופו של דבר, אנחנו רוצים שמעבדת הסדרות תגלה את הכישרונות המקומיים העולים שייצרו את הפאודה, שטיסל או ה-Hit & Run הבאים - סיפורים ישראלים שאומצו ברחבי העולם.
