31 July 2025On Thursday, Netflix released the first images of Caramelo, a heartwarming drama starring Rafael Vitti and his four-legged co-star, Amendoim. It's the first movie to feature what has become Brazil's national symbol, the caramel-colored mutts affectionately known as "trashcan-tippers," with the first poster for the feature film to be released on National Stray Dog Day. The production doesn't just celebrate our little Caramelo, but also the unique connection between dogs and humans — a bond that has the power to transform lives.
In the story, Pedro (Rafael Vitti) is a headstrong chef about to fulfill his dream of running a restaurant when an unexpected diagnosis turns his world upside down. With the help of a friendly caramel-colored stray (Amendoim), he embarks on an emotional journey of rediscovery, finding meaning and inspiration in the here and now. It's certain to move you and tug at your heartstrings.
Directed by Diego Freitas (Beyond the Universe), Caramelo also features Arianne Botelho, Noemia Oliveira, Ademara, Kelzy Ecard, Bruno Vinicius, Roger Gobeth and Olívia Araújo, as well as Cristina Pereira and Carolina Ferraz, with a special guest appearance by chef Paola Carosella.
Produced by Migdal Filmes in its first partnership with Netflix, with script by Diego Freitas (original idea), Rod Azevedo and Vitor Brandt, in collaboration with Carolina Castro and Marcelo Saback consulting. Animal trainer Luis Estrelas is also in charge of animal welfare on set, with American trainer Mike Miliotti (Garfield — The Movie) consulting.
