The Canadian Screen Awards marked another year of excellence in Canadian film and television and a major milestone for Netflix. Our local slate earned 32 nominations, with 39 nominations in total across all Netflix titles. Leading the way was North of North, with 20 nominations on its own. Wayward received the Spotlight Award for both Best Series and Best Writing, while North of North earned nine awards, including Best Comedy Series, Best Ensemble Performance, Comedy and Best Lead Performer, Comedy for Anna Lambe. See full list of winners below.
To celebrate the occasion, we partnered with the Canadian Screen Awards to create a Photo Suite that reflects the remarkable journey Canadian stories have taken over the past year.
Canadian talent from across film and television were invited to step aboard a vintage-inspired Canadian transcontinental passenger train. They found themselves on a life-sized set complete with props, ambient lighting, wood paneling, and classic libations at the bar, designed to transport talent and fans alike back in time.
The Photo Suite is a tribute to how far Canadian stories have travelled globally, and to the talent who are carrying these stories from local Canadian sets to audiences around the world. While the train only represents one stop on that journey, it marks a larger moment for Canadian film and television excellence, and we cannot wait to see where these stories go from here.
