Netflix has unveiled today the official trailer for The Child, the new film by Mariano Barroso (Ecstasy, Todas las mujeres, La línea invisible) and starring Goya Award winners Belén Cuesta (The Endless Trench, Money Heist) and Karra Elejalde (Spaish Affair, While at War). The Child will hit cinemas on 13 November, ahead of its Netflix release on 27 November.

Based on the novel by Fernando Aramburu, the film weaves a fictional story around a real tragedy, focusing on grief, family ties, and the different ways of coping with loss. “It is only when one is faced with an extreme situation and the need to overcome it, that one discovers one’s true strength. That is what The Child is about: the need to find what is indestructible within us,” says Mariano Barroso, the film’s director and screenwriter.

Barroso, Goya Winner for Best Adapted Screenplay for Todas las mujeres alongside Alejandro Hernández,  produces the film with  Rafael Portela (Umea Films)-  The cast is rounded off by Pep Ambròs (Burning Body, The Olive Tree), Raquel Ferri (God's Crooked Lines), Joan Solé (See You in Another Life), and the young actor Alex Infantes (The Crystal Cuckoo).

SYNOPSIS:

The Child tells the story of Mariaje (Belén Cuesta) and Nicasio (Karra Elejalde), the mother and grandfather of one of the children who died in a gas explosion in a town in the Basque Country in October 1980. The tragedy shocked the local community and the whole of Spain, changing their lives forever. On a journey marked by unexpected emotions, Mariaje and Nicasio search for —and find— their own unique way to overcome their loss.
