Netflix Kids & Families: How Netflix Keeps Parents in Control

At Netflix, we aim to entertain the world, and that includes families everywhere.

Netflix is one of Australia's largest contributors to kids and young adult content, this includes family favourites such as Surviving Summer, Back to the Outback, The InBESTigators, Izzy’s Koala World, Alien TV, Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance, Dive Club, True Spirit, Eddie’s Lil’ Homies (with NITV) and more. We want to ensure our members can grow up with Netflix, and discover something to enjoy at any age.

We know that each family is different and choice is important. So, on Safer Internet Day, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the tools we’ve developed to help parents  make informed choices for their family on Netflix.

Ratings - Netflix is full of great stories, but we want to ensure that kids are connecting with films, shows and games that are appropriate. That’s why we clearly mark our content with age ratings and consumer advice to help decide what’s best for your kids.

Parental Controls - Over the years we’ve released a range of parental controls. Every Netflix account has a kids profile built-in, and parents can set these to specific age levels, or restrict specific titles using passwords or pin codes. Parents can also monitor viewing history to see what their kids have watched on their profiles. You can easily access these settings by opening the Profile & Parental Controls settings on your Accounts page.

Ongoing improvement - There’s no one kind of family and so we continue to conduct research and seek input from families and experts on how we can continue to build easy-to-use, effective, and customisable tools to support families.

We’ve put all this information into a short video so you can easily learn about Netflix’s parental controls. Visit Netflix’s Help Centre or esafety.gov.au for further advice on how to keep parents in control online.
