01 September 2023As part of an ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), Netflix hosted close to 150 local content and creative partners for a full-day workshop in Taipei to foster a better understanding of our product and globalisation capabilities, launch and post-production workflow and to provide in-depth insights into content and music rights and legalities.
At Netflix, we believe in giving great and authentic storytelling a platform for more to enjoy. With sharing from representatives from the Content, Launch Management, Post-Production, Product Creative, Globalization and Content and Music Legal teams, local creatives got a chance to learn more about the start-to-end journey of a title on Netflix. From asset delivery requirements to launch and post-production processes, localisation capabilities, as well as an introductory session to content and music legalities, content partners were taken through the ways in which their stories will be supported and optimized for a global audience on Netflix.
Homme Tsai, TAICCA Chairperson, stated, “Taiwanese content is growing increasingly competitive in the global stage, and we should continue to elevate our production capabilities to better match commercial and market needs. TAICCA will continue to collaborate with international industry partners and streaming platforms to harness the commercial potential of Taiwanese content, and its ability to travel globally”.
Janslle Ong, Netflix’s Content Manager (Chinese-language), shared, "We are very grateful for the opportunity to host this workshop in partnership with TAICCA. Taiwan boasts a vibrant and talented creative pool, and we look forward to working with more creators in the market to bring more must-watch stories to audiences around the world”.
The workshop also offered a forum for local creatives and Netflix to exchange meaningful feedback and insights on the local entertainment industry. “It is my first time participating in a cross-border workshop like this and it was a detailed and insightful session, covering a variety of topics. We look forward to collaborating with Netflix to discover more local stories from Taiwan and to bring them to a global platform,” shared CEO of Machi Xcelsior Studios, Lu Wei-Chun.
In addition, Holly Chen, producer of Neverland Entertainment Limited, said, “The sharing has offered a glimpse into how a global streaming company curates and designs its product. In turn, it also provides insights on what we have to consider when partnering with an international platform, which is truly a team effort”.
Taiwanese series like Copycat Killer, Wave Makers, Light the Night, Mom, Don’t Do That!, The Victims’ Game and films such as Marry My Dead Body and Incantation have earned positive reception from local and international audiences alike, and with local initiatives as such, we look forward to discovering more must-watch content in close collaboration with the local creative industry.
