23 January 2024Japan’s latest high-stakes reality dating show Love Deadline premieres today, taking matchmaking to a new level by combining the allure of travel, the drama of dating, and a race against time. The women, all on a quest for marriage, hold the power in this game of love and risk. The first four episodes debut today, followed by a staggered release of the remaining six episodes until February 13.
Five single women go on a 30-day journey to several idyllic locations alongside eligible bachelors, where they test their compatibility through a series of dates. However, there’s a catch. The men are on the trip for a limited time, and they can be asked to leave at any moment. The woman is given one chance to propose throughout the trip, a move she can only make when the journey of the man she’s interested in comes to an end.
Here lies the gamble: If the proposal is accepted, they become an engaged couple; but if it’s rejected, the woman must leave alone. She also has the choice not to propose at all, deciding to stay in the game instead and hope for a potential match with a different man.
Their journey begins in Okinawa, where the couples spend time relaxing on the beach, before going on to Kyoto for a kimono date. Throughout the trip, the participants can exchange messages and call each other during their free time using the dedicated smartphones provided.
Here are the 10 contestants in the episode 1.
Guiding viewers through this whirlwind of romance are emcees Hidetsugu Shibata (from comedy duo “Untouchable”), Miu Ikeda and Nana Suzuki. The show’s journey is set to the rhythm of the main theme song “Baby Don’t Cry” by Namie Amuro.
Can the women make the decision of a lifetime on a random deadline? Tune in to Love Deadline, now streaming on Netflix.
