Alberta has captivated global audiences by serving as the backdrop for a number of Netflix productions. Series filmed in this province highlight Alberta’s natural beauty, diverse landscapes and exceptional local talent.

Netflix's very first production in the province was Black Summer. Since then, the momentum in Alberta has only continued with hits like My Life With the Walter Boys,  Our Living World and the upcoming Western drama, The Abandons. 

My Life With the Walter Boys enthralled members worldwide, demonstrating Alberta's global appeal. Within a month of its launch, it racked up over 254M viewing hours and more than 33M global views. It also spent eight weeks on the Global Top 10 TV list and reached the Top 10 in 88 countries. Since then, the show has been renewed for two additional seasons, with the second season now on Netflix and Season 3 currently in production!

These productions showcase Alberta’s vast range of landscapes and communities, with filming locations spanning from Calgary, Crossfield and Cochrane to Kananaskis Country. Fans can discover all these Alberta filming locations on Netflix in Your Neighbourhood.

Netflix has also invested in fostering local talent in the province. For more than five years, we’ve sponsored the BANFF Diversity of Voices program, offering professional development and career acceleration for underrepresented creators and producers across Canada. Through this support, we’ve helped creatives attend the annual conference and benefit from professional development and pitching opportunities.

For the last two years, Netflix has also participated in the iconic Calgary Stampede, hosting  receptions to connect with the local community and give fans unforgettable experiences, including an appearance with the stars of My Life With the Walter Boys at this year’s rodeo!
