‘Let’s Talk About CHU’ Cast Gathers for Bold and Steamy Conversations on Love and Sex

Let's Talk About CHU - 4

Ahead of the debut of Taiwanese comedy series Let’s Talk About CHU on February 2, six cast members including Chan Tzu-hsuan, JC Lin, Wu Chien-ho, Kimi Hsia, Umin Boya, and Miao Ke-li gathered for a launch party, where they discussed the highly relatable struggles of love and sex their characters face in the brand new series. Co-produced by Machi Xcelsior Studios and Lucky Sparks Films, the contemporary, bold and heartwarming Let’s Talk About CHU is helmed by award-winning director Remii Huang (At the Moment).

Rising singer JUD Chen warmed up the party with a heartfelt rendition of “This Is Love,” the series’ original theme song. Reprising her role as Chu Ai, a sex education social media content creator, lead actress Chan Tzu-hsuan led discussions with the crowd on hot topics such as sex and sexuality. The crowd also enjoyed bespoke cocktails curated by gender-friendly bar Fairy and creative outfit Dan and Sean.

Director Remii Huang expressed, "The main purpose of this series is to encourage viewers to love themselves more and reconcile with past traumas to achieve a healthy balance between sex and love. I want to convey that there is light and beauty in a relationship where sex is accompanied by love.” Beneath the steamy and intimate scenes in Let’s Talk About CHU lies a nuanced exploration of the topics of sex and sexuality. Miao Ke-li, who plays the role of the matriarch in the Chu family, shared, “This series brings to the surface many intimate and personal experiences, inspiring self-reflection. By speaking openly about these topics, we hope that the younger generation will be able to better protect themselves, and those around them.”

Unexpected couple JC Lin and Wu Chien-ho share memorable moments on-set. The highly-anticipated Boy Love couple played by JC Lin and Wu Chien-ho is a reflection of how love can be unexpected and occur anywhere, more specifically, at a funeral. Recalling his experience on set, JC Lin shared, “The scene was actually very tiring, as Chien-ho and I had to maintain the sex position for a while with his legs over my shoulders. It was a truly special experience.” Wu Chien-ho added, "Playing a same-sex couple for the first time was nerve-wracking at first, but it turned out to be a very interesting experience."

Kimi Hsia and Umin Boya bring to the forefront relationship issues commonly faced by married couples.

Husband and wife duo Chu Wei (Kimi Hsia) and Shih-chieh (Umin Boya) addressed the topic of the seven-year itch, common among married couples. Kimi Hsia expressed how her character is a relatable representation of a woman with low self-esteem, seeking affirmation from her husband through physical intimacy. Umin Boya explained, “The truth is sometimes we are just tired or stressed out from work, and personal space between husband and wife can be equally important.”

Let's Talk About CHU explores the intricacies of love and relationships through the lens of different generations in the Chu family. The story begins on New Year’s Eve, when the struggles of “love” and “sex” within the Chu family take center stage. The series features a star-studded cast, including Chan Tzu-hsuan (The Post-Truth World), Kai Ko (Miss Shampoo, You Are the Apple of My Eye), JC Lin (At the Moment, The Bridge Curse), Wu Chien-ho (A Sun), Kimi Hsia (On Marriage), Umin Boya (Till We Meet Again), Miao Ke-li (A Thousand Goodnights), and Hong Sheng-te (Your Name Engraved Herein, Little Big Women).
