‘GG Precinct’ Goes Viral: Exclusive Cast Images and Behind-The-Scenes Featurette Offer a Fun Look Inside the Series

Within just 24 hours of its launch on August 22, quirky crime comedy series GG Precinct became the top TV show in Taiwan. The series has taken the top spot in the Daily Top 10 TV series ranking for five consecutive days in Taiwan, and has also climbed the Weekly Top 10 in Taiwan (#1), Hong Kong (#3), Thailand (#9), Singapore (#10) and Vietnam (#7), sparking lively conversations on social media.

Responding to the warm reception online, creators at Calendar Studio shares, "We are heartened by the overwhelming response right from the night of the release. It’s amazing to see how quickly audiences have picked up on the catchy lines and created memes. We are surprised and grateful for the audience's reception towards this bold and quirky story and look forward to bringing more great stories to them in the future.” 

To celebrate this milestone, Netflix has released never-before-seen images of the star-studded cast. This includes the beloved cops of GG Precinct — Gingle Wang, Ma Nien-hsien, Lulu Huang Lu Zi Yin, Lin He-xuan and Flower Chen — and surprise cast additions Tai Chih-yuan, Wu Yang-lin, Maria Abe and YELLOW. Fans are also treated to a behind-the-scenes featurette, where directors Cheng Wei-hao and Yin Chen-hao deep dive into the production journey, special effects, character development and costume design featured in the series.

Cheng shares, "While filming Marry My Dead Body, I found the police squad to be somewhat chaotic, but also incredibly endearing. I have a soft spot for lovable characters, and I thought they might be capable of some outrageous things. That's when the idea to develop a rarely-seen action-comedy series set in Taiwan came to mind."

Cheng also unveiled that he was inspired by the Power Rangers for the costume design. Yin adds, "We wanted each character to have something iconic in their wardrobe. For instance, Yung-kang (Ma Nien-hsien) has his tie, Ming-han (Hsu Kuang-han) wears a baseball jacket, while Tzu-ching's (Gingle Wang) strong character is conveyed through leather materials. Each character has a distinctive feature immediately recognizable to the audience."

GG Precinct is a unique genre-blending crime comedy series that builds on the acclaim of box office hit Marry My Dead Body, which is also Taiwan’s official selection for the 2024 Academy Awards. In GG Precinct, rookie police captain Lin Tzu-ching (Gingle Wang) and goofy detective Wu Ming-han (Hsu Kuang-han) face a trail of murders staged as chilling Chinese-idiom word games and race to solve the serial killer's deadly puzzles.
