Berlin, Munich June 26, 2023 At the Munich International Film Festival today, Netflix revealed the first sneak-peeks of its new romantic comedy Die Liebeskümmerer, due for release in Spring 2024. The UFA Fiction production is based loosely on the successful self-help book by Elena-Katharina Sohn Goodbye Herzschmerz (“Goodbye Heartache”). In 2011, after separating from her life partner, Sohn founded the “Liebeskümmerer” agency in Berlin, where she helps people who have been struck by heartbreak find a way out of their emotional turmoil.. She eventually published Anleitung zum Wieder-Glücklichsein (“How to Be Happy Again”), documenting her challenges in processing her own heartache and helping her clients do the same, which became a bestseller.

The movie Die Liebeskümmerer was directed by Shirel Peleg (Kiss Me Kosher, Tatort: Die Nacht der Kommissare), with a screenplay by Antonia Rothe-Liermann (The Wall Between Us, Barbarians) and Malte Welding (It's Just a Phase, Honeybunny, Text for You). Rosalie Thomass (The Kangaroo Conspiracy, Hunting Season) stars in the leading role as a sympathetic agency boss and single mother Maria, alongside Laurence Rupp (Broll + Baroni, Barbarians) as Karl – a journalist and incurable ladies’ man. Nataly Kudiabor was the producer. The movie was filmed in Berlin, Brandenburg, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The witty dialogues in Die Liebeskümmerer put an age-old dilemma into a  modern (online-dating) context – everything could be so easy if only we didn’t let disappointment, resignation and cynicism get in the way of love. Cora Trube, Jerry Hoffmann, Jakob Schreier, Denise M’Baye, Özgür Karadeniz, Charleen Deetz, Margarethe Tiesel, Paula Schramm, Arash Marandi, Maria Hofstätter, Timur Isik, Amélie Miloy, and many more star alongside the lead actors.
