Berlin, June 24, 2024: To Charly (Frederick Lau), Berlin seems to be back to normal: After a nerve-wracking road trip with driver and unwilling accomplice Joseph (Christoph Krutzler) through Vienna to Marseille, and the rescue of his family from the hands of the Corsican mafia in Season 1 of CROOKS, the story of the golden coin is far from over! Netflix has now confirmed a second season of the hit series from showrunner Marvin Kren.
In Season 2, our two heroes are once again on a wild journey to find the coin. Creator, showrunner, director and author Marvin Kren is excited about the next season: "I can't give away too much, but if we were to compare Season 2 to a Viennese dish, it would probably be a very, very spicy one. Probably a Käsekrainer (sausage with cheese), in this case with a good amount of chopped fiery red and green chili peppers—and a strong drink to wash it down. While you won't find this in regular sausage shops, we're offering it in the form of a series. We will once again follow Charly and Joseph all over the world on the wildest, most ludicrous, most exciting, most touching and at the same time most authentic gangster adventure."
The first season was already "exhilaratingly entertaining" (Spiegel.de), a "fast-paced road trip full of exciting twists and underdog flair" (Berlin Times), because "Kren knows how to keep viewers glued to the screen with adrenaline rushes" (Cinema). Audiences agreed: After its launch, Crooks took international Netflix premiers by storm and remained in the top 10 non-English-language series for four weeks. In its second week, Crooks even climbed to second place among all Netflix series, both English and non-English, and got millions of views worldwide.
Season 2 continues the wild gangster, action, buddy comedy and road movie mashup. Newspaper Bild am Sonntag describes the series as "tough, breathless and with great Viennese humor." And this is exactly how the infernal duo, consisting of good-natured Joseph and clever former burglar Charly, the "Bud Spencer and Terence Hill in noir" (according to Kren), will soon continue.
About Crooks Season 1
Charly and his family live a quiet life in Berlin until his dark past catches up with him. Old associates threaten his family and force him to steal a valuable coin. Joseph, the driver for a Vienna gang, is there to take the loot safely to Austria. However, the carefully crafted plan falls apart, culminating in a deadly shootout. Charly and Joseph find their fates inextricably tangled as they are forced to flee and get Charly's family to safety. In search of themselves and desperately trying to save what's important to them, the two crooks will have to hold their own against gangs from Berlin, Vienna, and Marseille. Their only hope for success is to trust in their friendship with each other. It's the start of an adventurous and action-packed road trip across three countries for the both of them.
