05 February 2024At Netflix, we aim to entertain the world, and that includes families everywhere.
Netflix is one of Australia's largest contributors to kids and young adult content, having invested more than $500M over the past four years. This includes family favourites such as Izzy’s Koala World, Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance, Dive Club, Surviving Summer, Back to the Outback, True Spirit and more. We want to ensure members can grow up with Netflix and have something to enjoy at all ages.
We know that each family is different and choice is important. So, on Safer Internet Day, we’re taking the chance to ‘Connect, Reflect, Protect’ on the tools we’ve developed so parents can make the right decisions for their families.
Connect - Netflix is full of great stories, but we want to ensure that kids are connecting with films and shows that are appropriate. That’s why we clearly mark our content with age ratings and consumer advice to help decide what’s best for movie night.
Reflect - Over the years we’ve released a range of parental controls. Every Netflix account has a kids profile built-in, and parents can set these to specific age levels, or restrict specific titles using passwords or pin codes. Parents can also monitor viewing history to see what their kids have watched on their profiles. You can easily access these settings by opening the Profile & Parental Controls settings on your Accounts page.
Protect - There’s no one kind of family and so we continue to conduct research and seek input from families and experts on how we can continue to build easy-to-use, effective, and customisable tools to protect and support families.
We’ve put all this information into a short video so you can easily learn about Netflix’s parental controls. Visit Netflix’s Help Centre or esafety.gov.au for further advice on how to keep your family safe online.
