Social Impact
29 July 2026The CIMA IMPULSA program, an initiative of the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA) with the collaboration of the ICAA and Netflix, has selected the 16 projects in development phase that will take part in its seventh edition, after receiving 258 applications.
The selection is made up of 6 fiction feature films, 4 fiction series, 3 documentary feature films, 1 documentary series, 1 animation feature film and 1 animation series. In addition, more than 65% of the authors are CIMA members, fulfilling one of the criteria established in the call.
The call maintains its Ibero-American vocation with two projects coming from Brazil and Argentina, while a third of the authors are of Latin American origin, although most reside in Spain or hold Spanish nationality.
Among the themes and approaches featured in the projects are class differences, family relationships, the rights of women and LGTBIQA+ people, critical reflections on Europe, the situation of public university or climate change; as well as characters that mutate between the human and the animal, memory and the archive, or the capacity to weave support networks and the desire to belong to a community.
Following the rules of the call, the selection has been made attending to criteria of quality, innovation and development potential, also seeking a balance between different trajectories, ages and origins. More than half of the projects are led by creators belonging to underrepresented groups in the audiovisual sector.
The selection committee has been formed by women professionals who have contributed a diversity of perspectives to the projects: Maite Bermúdez, Anxos Fazáns, Nuria Landete and Gerylee Polanco in fiction feature films; Lorena Iglesias and Sara Varela in fiction series; Raquel Pedreira and Yolanda Pividal in documentary (feature films and series), and Irene Iborra and Maria Pagès in the animation category (feature films and series).
