28 June 2024Hollywood celebrated Pride with a special screening of Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution, the first feature-length documentary to explore the history of queer stand-up comedy.
Over 350 comedy fans, and guests from nonprofit organizations including GLAAD, Comedy Gives Back and The Trevor Project joined the film’s director Page Hurwitz and onscreen subjects River Butcher, James Adomian, Suzanne Westenhoefer, Dave Holmes, Robin Tran, Solomon Georgio and Roger Mason on June 27 to view the film, which combines interviews, memorable stand-up performances, archival materials, and verité footage featuring top LGBTQ+ comedians.
Before the screening, guests enjoyed stand-up performances from Robin Tran and Solomon Georgio. Dave Holmes emceed the event with director Page Hurwitz introducing the film.
“It was wonderful to have an LA special screening at the iconic Egyptian Theatre. We’ve come a long way! Thank you, Netflix!” said Hurwitz.
The event was part of the Egyptian Theatre’s screening series, Hollywood Pride: Queer Lives on the Silver Screen, showcasing films across nearly a century of Hollywood filmmaking, charting the progression of queer representation in movies.
