Link copied to clipboardThis week, we welcomed Reed Hastings to chilly Warsaw to meet with our creative partners and cap off an exciting year for Netflix in Poland. In 2022, we opened our regional CEE office in Warsaw, bringing our teams closer to the creative community, and saw the premiere of big, local hits including High Water and How I Fell in Love with the Gangster.
Since we first launched in Poland in 2016 and premiered our first original 1983 in 2018, we have endeavored to bring our members in Poland an incredible variety of local, authentic stories like Broad Peak, Sexify, and Green Glove Gang. To date, we have had over 3500 actors, scriptwriters, directors and all of the below-the-line crews working as the backbone of every production. In 2022 alone we have invested 400 M PLN in Polish films and series.
As Reed said, “It is a real honor to be back in Poland. I was last here in 2016 when we had just localized Netflix. Today, we have produced over 30 Polish films and series, including recent hits such as High Water and Broad Peak that have been enjoyed by millions of our members locally and internationally. We’re so excited to continue investing in Poland and working even more closely with the Polish creative community on great series and films that are made in Poland and watched all around the world.”
Today, we’re also excited to announce four new projects that add to our growing slate:
Heweliusz – from the creators of the hit series High Water - Anna Kępińska, Jan Holoubek and Kasper Bajon - comes a disaster drama series inspired by the story of the tragic sinking of the Polish-Norwegian ferry, Jan Heweliusz.
Go Ahead Brother – working for the first time for Netflix, the well-known Polish director Maciej Pieprzyca brings a series about the clash of two families that stand on opposite sides of the law. This neo-western was written by Kacper Wysocki and executive produced by Łukasz Dzięcioł.
Furioza part 2 & 3 – the first part of Cyprian T. Olenicki’s thriller feature film, Furiosa, hit Netflix global Top10 list. Now Polish and international viewers can strap in for parts 2 and 3, both of which are produced by Marcin Zarębski and Magdalena Szwedkowicz.
Lady Janosik – the director of the much-loved young-adult Polish series Sexify, Kalina Alabrudzińska, and Bartosz Sztybor, screenwriter and celebrated comic scriptwriter, bring a new adventure film where an impulsive teenager meets a band of highlanders, giving the Polish legend of Janosik a modern interpretation. Producer: Jan Kwieciński.
In addition to these new commissions, in 2023 we will premiere new shows including Feedback, A Girl and An Astronaut, Detective Forst, Infamia, and Lovzone along with new films Mr. Car & The Knights Templar, Tonight You Are Sleeping With Me, and Freestyle.
