Old Dog, New Tricks, Netflix's New Comedy Miniseries Shot in Galicia, Finishes Filming

Netflix announced today the end of filming and new cast of Old Dog, New Tricks, its new comedy miniseries starring Luis Zahera ('Entrevías', 'Vivir sin permiso') and produced by Alea Media. The project was filmed entirely in Galicia.

Old Dog, New Tricks tells the story of Antón (Luis Zahera), a rural Galician vet who is forced to take a job in a pet boutique run by his niece Uxía (Lucía Caraballo, 'No me gusta conducir'), with whom he will have to learn to adapt and discover that, in the family and at work, not everything is always black and white. The cast is completed by Carmen Ruiz ('Amar en tiempos revueltos') and Antonio Durán 'Morris' ('Fariña').

Aitor Gabilondo ('Patria', 'El Silencio') and Jota Aceytuno ('Urban'. 'La vida es nuestra') are the executive producers of the series, directed by Alberto del Toro and Victor García León, who also wrote the script with Ana Boyero, Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor, Germán Aparicio and Daniel Castro. The story takes place between Topomorto, Antón's fictitious village, which is the result of a combination of locations in different towns of A Coruña, including Dioño, A Calle, Pontemaceira, Parroquia, Teo and Vedra, and the city of Santiago de Compostela.

“The starting point of Old Dog, New Tricks comes from a reflection: If an alien observed us from the sky, they would see millions of humans walking their pets, picking up their poop, taking them to the hairdresser, buying them toys and, in short, giving their lives to the most exquisite care. What would the alien think then? Who really are the pets?”, says executive producer Jota Aceytuno. “My first series with Alea, Vivir sin permiso, was also filmed entirely in Galicia. Part of that team has been in Old Dog, New Tricks. Getting back to enjoying its people and those natural settings, even though the rain continually changed our filming plans, has been an exciting experience”, he adds.
