Alex de la Iglesia, Carmen Maura and Blanca Suarez Together in a New Project for Netflix

Netflix has announced the start of filming and the main cast of La cuidadora, the new film by Álex de la Iglesia.

Carmen Maura (Common Wealth, Someone Has to Die) will lead the cast of this mystery thriller alongside Blanca Suárez (Four's a Crowd, Breathless), reuniting both actresses in a new project by the director.

The cast is completed by Marta Hazas (Velvet, Dancing on Glass), Asier Etxeandia (Pain and Glory, Sky Rojo), and David Comrie (Money Heist, Arrival).

La cuidadora is a production of Pokeepsie Films (Banijay Iberia) and features Carolina Bang and Álex de la Iglesia as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Jelen Morales and Álex de la Iglesia. Filming began this week in Madrid and will continue through mid-July. The entire film will be shot on 35 mm film.

About La cuidadora When Carmen, an 80-year-old widow, suffers a domestic accident, her daughter Lourdes decides to hire a caregiver to help with her daily needs. Used to living alone, Carmen rejects all the candidates, feeling her space is being invaded. This frustrates her daughter, whose life is disrupted by her mother's constant need for attention. The stressful parade of caregivers strains Lourdes’s marriage. Her husband Mario is forced to turn down an important job offer. Tired of the endless cycle of interviews, hires, and dismissals, Lourdes argues with her mother, which makes her feel guilty. Just when it seems no caregiver will ever be good enough for Carmen, Blanca arrives - a woman with an angelic appearance, kind, efficient, and resourceful. But things are not as they seem. Blanca hides a secret that will change Carmen’s life forever.
