Berlin, October 19, 2022 – The poster for the long-awaited mystery series 1899 was released today, fueling speculation among fans. The image shows a woman who seems to be falling– it’s the young doctor Maura Franklin, travelling alone, played by Emily Beecham. In the year 1899, her courage and independence are just as unconventional as her chosen profession. What secrets hide in her past that would drive a woman of her standing to sail on an immigrant ship heading from Europe to New York?

The new mystery series by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the makers of DARK, starts on November 17, worldwide and exclusively on Netflix.

 About 1899 The eight episodes follow mysterious events during the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all of different backgrounds, are united by their hopes for a new century and their future abroad. When they discover a second ship adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a nightmare-like riddle, connecting each of the passenger’s pasts through a web of secrets.
