Connection and Youth Defined: 'The Ramparts of Ice' Brings a Heartwarming Story of Friendship to Netflix this April

A new anime series, The Ramparts of Ice, capturing the everyday highs and lows of Japanese high school life, is set to arrive on Netflix this April with weekly episodes. A first look at their story has been unveiled in the newly released key art and main trailer.

This series is based on Kocha Agasawa’s popular manga series “The Ramparts of Ice,” which has received 160 million total views on the LINE Manga digital service (as of August 2025), with the print edition published by Shueisha Jump Comics reaching over 1.94 million copies in cumulative circulation (as of August 2025, including the digital version). The voice cast features Anna Nagase as Koyuki Hikawa, Fuka Izumi as Miki Azumi, Shoya Chiba as Minato Amamiya, and Satoshi Inomata as Yota Hino.

The story centers around Koyuki Hikawa, a socially withdrawn student who keeps an emotional wall between herself and others. The only person she spends time with is her longtime friend, Miki Azumi. One day, her quiet life is disrupted when a boy named Minato Amamiya inexplicably starts trying to break through her barriers. The aloof Koyuki, the high school idol Miki, the overly familiar Minato and the laid-back basketball player Yota share an awkward, occasionally frustrating, yet wholesome student life.

Opening with a glimpse of Koyuki’s middle school days, the trailer explores her long-held feelings of being trapped by the past. We see Miki struggling with the gap between her "idol" image and her real self, Minato being confronted for his "arrogance" despite his even-keeled approach to people, and Yota feeling uneasy about his own excessive kindness. Each character faces their own unique dilemma, capturing the raw, emotional moments when their hidden inner voices finally break through. A reclusive high school student is drawn out of her shell by three other students in a vexing yet wholesome story about youth and connection. The Ramparts of Ice is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix this April 2 with new episodes weekly.
