The Paris Theater Celebrates Dolby Atmos Installation and the Return of 70mm with Big & Loud Series

Paris Theater, Marriage Story

Every cinephile’s origin story begins with an experience so immersive and transporting that it creates a lifelong devotion to celebrating the art of film. That for me was seeing Star Wars at the Loews Astor Plaza in 1977. I visited NYC for the first time that summer, and the highlight was definitely seeing the movie of the year with 1,400 other giddy fans in Times Square. I know I saw the film ten more times that summer, but all my memories of Star Wars were created by the electricity of the audience and the grandeur of that glorious temple of cinema.

That's why we're thrilled to unveil Dolby Atmos sound at the Paris Theater in Manhattan. This beloved 75-year-old Midtown cultural institution has undoubtedly helped hundreds of cinema lovers similarly find their passion, and we're excited to captivate and exhilarate new visitors with this high-quality addition. With over 500 seats, the Paris is now the largest Dolby Atmos cinema in Manhattan.

We’re also bringing back 70mm projection for the first time in 15 years. With industry-best  sight and sound, we’re able to marry the charm and tradition of this historic venue with today's technology for a world-class cinematic experience.

To celebrate these enhancements, we’re launching Big & Loud, a program of canonical and modern classics, Dolby Atmos-mixed features and films about the sonically-obsessed, that will showcase the industry-leading, mesmeric capabilities of the new sound system, running from Sept. 1-7.

The eye-popping, thunderous full program is as follows:

70mm: 2001: A Space Odyssey Baraka Lawrence of Arabia Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Playtime  ROMA (70mm) Top Gun

Dolby Atmos DCP: Apocalypse Now: Final Cut Blade Runner: Final Cut Da 5 Bloods Mad Max: Fury Road The Matrix Memoria A Quiet Place ROMA (Dolby Atmos DCP) Scott Pilgrim vs. the World tick, tick...BOOM!

Sound-centric/Audio-obsessive (DCP except as noted): Blow Out La Ciénaga The Conversation (35mm) Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé I Am Trying To Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco Miss Americana

Dates and times for the series will be made available shortly. You can sign up for updates on Big & Loud and the Paris Theater here

Generations of filmmakers have been inspired by their own formative movie palace experiences, and we hope Big & Loud at the Paris might just awaken the next great storyteller.
