05 September 2023The first successful edition of the TakeTen initiative, a workshop and competition by Netflix and Film Companion to discover and support emerging Indian creators from varied backgrounds, provided a stage for 10 new filmmakers to shine and this year, we are again partnering up with the aim of finding and nurturing the talent of five new series creators. The new batch of storytellers will be given an exciting opportunity to attend exclusively curated workshops by some of the best creative talent in the industry, make a fully funded pilot for a series with a grant of Rs.12 Lakhs each, and get a chance to be featured on Netflix India’s Youtube channel.
The shortlisted participants will be given the opportunity to take a deeper look at the process behind writing, direction, production and more from award-winning talent including Prashant Nair, Raj Nidimoru, Gazal Dhaliwal, Varun Grover, Utsab Nath, Tanuj Chopra, Sanyukta Kaza, Pranav Thakkar and Sidharth Meer.
Monika Shergill, VP, Content, Netflix India said, “Building on the success of the previous edition of Take Ten, we are excited to bring the initiative back with a unique opportunity for series creators to unveil their storytelling mastery. TakeTen is dedicated to not only fostering diverse talent, but also to empower the chosen participants to find their own distinct voices. We cannot be more thrilled to provide a platform for the next generation of creators and look forward to seeing their compelling stories unfold.”
“I'm thrilled that TakeTen is back. In this second edition, we are venturing into a new domain - series creation. It's an exciting time for long-form storytelling and I can't wait to see what our selected creators make” says film critic, author and Film Companion editor, Anupama Chopra, who is leading the program this year. “TakeTen enables creators from diverse backgrounds to find their voice. I hope the programme continues to grow and support creators from underrepresented communities in seeing their dreams become a reality.”
TakeTen is sponsored by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, which has committed $100 million a year over five years to setting underrepresented communities up for success in the TV and film industries through programs all around the world.
Since its inception in 2021, the fund has empowered more than 200 filmmakers in Asia-Pacific to create and tell their stories through numerous Netflix-backed film programs, camps and film and television workshops.
Inclusion behind the camera leads to inclusion in front of the camera. TakeTen aims to build a more inclusive creative industry, while giving the next generation of storytellers a chance to share their voice and perspectives through their stories.
