Netflix Unveils the Final Trailer for 'Society of the Snow' by J.A. Bayona

  • 'Society of the Snow' will arrive on Netflix on January 4 after its theatrical release on December 15.

Netflix today unveiled the final trailer for 'Society of the Snow', after sharing last Friday a new poster for the film by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) that will arrive on Netflix on January 4,2024 after its theatrical release on December 15.

The film is Spain's representative at the 96th edition of the Oscar Awards and is eligible to be nominated in fifteen categories at the Premios Goya 2024, including best film, best direction for J.A. Bayona, best leading actor for Enzo Vogrincic, best supporting actor for Agustín Pardella and best newcomer for Matías Recalt, among others. It has also been nominated for four Feroz Awards (best dramatic film, best direction for J.A. Bayona, best original music for Michael Giacchino and best trailer) and best fiction feature film at the Forqué Awards.

'Society of snow' was the closing film of the 80th Venice International Film Festival, as well as winner of the Audience Award at the 71st San Sebastian International Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Fiction Film at the Mill Valley Film Festival's ¡Viva el cine! section, the Audience Award for Best International Film at the Middleburg Film Festival and the Audience Award in the GEMS selection at the Miami Film Festival.

'Society of the Snow' is produced by Belén Atienza, Sandra Hermida and J.A. Bayona. Starring Enzo Vogrincic, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka and Tomas Wolf, with a screenplay by J.A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, Nicolás Casariego from the novel by Pablo Vierci

The film is based on the book 'Society of the Snow' by Pablo Vierci. Filming took place in Sierra Nevada (Andalusia), Montevideo (Uruguay) and in different locations in the Andes (both in Chile and Argentina) including El Valle de las Lágrimas, the real location where the story took place.

About 'Society of the Snow'

In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to take a rugby team to Chile, crashes into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survive the crash. Trapped in one of the most inaccessible and hostile environments on the planet, they are forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.

About J.A Bayona 

Internationally renowned Spanish filmmaker, J.A. Bayona made his directorial debut with The Orphanage (2007) at Cannes, winning numerous awards including seven Goyas. His follow-up, The Impossible (2012) saw him enter English-language cinema winning five Goyas including Best Director. Additional credits include A Monster Calls (2016), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018); Executive producer of Marrowbone (2017) and I Hate New York (2018). A prominent figure in television, Bayona’s also directed episodes of Penny Dreadful (2014-2016) and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022). Society of the Snow is his fifth feature film, and his first to be shot in Spanish in sixteen  years.
