Netflix Unveils the First Images From 'The Son of a Thousand Men', a Film Featuring Rodrigo Santoro Based on Valter Hugo Mãe's Work of the Same Name

On Wednesday, Netflix released the first images of the main characters from the film adaptation of Valter Hugo Mãe's novel, The Son of a Thousand Men. With Daniel Rezende as director and screenwriter (Bingo: The King of the Mornings, Monica and Friends: Bonds), the feature film stars Rodrigo Santoro, Miguel Martines, Rebeca Jamir and Johnny Massaro. The Son of a Thousand Men debuts globally on Netflix in 2025.

This is the first adaptation of a book by Valter Hugo Mãe. The bestselling work follows Crisóstomo (Rodrigo Santoro), a lone fisherman who dreams of one day having a son. His life changes when he meets Camilo (Miguel Martines), an orphan boy whom he decides to foster. Meanwhile, as she tries to escape her own pain, Isaura (Rebeca Jamir) encounters the two of them, along with Antonino (Johnny Massaro), a misunderstood young man. Together, the four of them learn about the meaning of family and the purpose of sharing life with others.

Produced by Biônica Filmes and Barry Company, the cast also features Antonio Haddad, Carlos Francisco, Grace Passô, Inez Viana, Juliana Caldas, Lívia Silva, Marcello Escorel, and Tuna Dwek, among others.

The Son of a Thousand Men was filmed between Búzios, along the coast of Rio de Janeiro, and Chapada Diamantina, in Bahia. The newly released images will be available to the public beginning tomorrow, July 31, at the 23rd edition of the Paraty International Literary Festival - Flip, taking place at the Esquina piauí + Netflix literary house. There, the book's author, Valter Hugo Mãe, will also meet with the director and screenwriter of the feature film, Daniel Rezende, as well as the leading actor, Rodrigo Santoro, and Netflix Brazil's head film executive, Higia Ikeda, to discuss the process of adapting the book to film.
