Netflix Swings Big With ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Partnerships

Netflix is teeing up for the premiere of Happy Gilmore 2 with a hole-in-one lineup of partners: Subway, U.S. Bank, and Callaway. Just like Happy took his hockey stick to the green, this trio is bringing their A-game to the fairway with custom creative and limited edition drops that would make even Shooter McGavin nervous. 

In 1996, Happy proved that with a killer slapshot swing and a whole lot of heart, anything is possible — even turning a hockey player into a pro golfer. Now, nearly 30 years later, Subway is embracing the same underdog spirit. To celebrate Happy’s long-awaited return, the brand has partnered with Netflix to invite fans to turn any order into a Happy Gilmore Meal and receive one of four limited-edition cups featuring fan-favorite characters from the movie franchise. Any combo, any sandwich, any time. But that’s not all: Subway has created a line of custom merch that is both vintage and Happy-inspired. 

In a twist worthy of a classic clubhouse meltdown, Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) himself is stepping in as the official ambassador of the Happy Gilmore Meal at Subway – mostly to air his grievances. Shooter will make it known (to anyone who’ll listen) that every meal at Subway is now Happy’s meal. Netflix and Subway worked with McDonald and pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau to capture custom social content supporting the partnership. The Happy Gilmore Meal will be available starting July 10 at Subway locations nationwide, or while supplies last. 

And as if that weren’t enough to send Shooter into a tailspin, U.S. Bank is joining the fun as the film’s Champions Tour premiere sponsor, bringing their financial know-how to the fairway. In new custom TV spots that will run on Netflix’s ad-supported plan, U.S. Bank plays it straight: highlighting their trusted planning tools and money management expertise, while the spirit of Happy takes a more creative approach to the idea of “investing in your future.” The result? A campaign where fans can quite literally “Bank Happy,” featuring the legendary Verne Lundquist, Happy Gilmore 2 announcer Jack Giarraputo, and U.S. Bank’s brand ambassador, PGA Tour pro Collin Morikawa.

Callaway will be releasing a collection of limited-edition golf balls, plus the Odyssey Hockey Stick Putter — playing faithful tribute to Happy’s unorthodox but unforgettable putter of choice. These collectors’ drops are designed for golfers and Happy Gilmore fans alike, bringing a little Happy-style chaos to the course.
