The production has just begun in Lund, Sweden October 4, 2023 – Netflix today announced An Honest Life, a Swedish thriller based on Joakim Zander’s novel by the same name. The film is directed by award-winning director Mikael Marcimain (Blackwater, The Laser man, Call girl), adapted to the screen by Linn Gottfridsson (Comedy Queen, Beartown) and produced by Anna Anthony for FLX. Simon Lööf (Threesome), Nora Rios (Caliphate) and Peter Andersson (The Millennium Trilogy, The Unlikely Murderer, The Dark Heart) have been cast to play the leading roles.
Synopsis: Simon arrives in Lund full of anticipation and ready for his life to really begin; but is quickly disappointed by law school. During a violent protest march he meets the anarchistic young woman Max and falls in love. She dazzles him with a world of excess, lies and huge risks - and when he realizes the damage that’s done, it’s already too late to escape. "An Honest Life" is a thriller about betrayal, class and the appeal of living outside the law.
Director Mikael Marcimain says: “After a number of period projects, I wanted to make a contemporary film that’s exciting, rawly sensual and loaded with social commentary. Joakim Zander’s emotional, brutal and dark novel, “An Honest Life”, a coming of age thriller set at a university felt like perfect cinematic material. It’s a gripping, anarchistic love story with complex characters and should allow for a classic yet punk rock approach to the making of the film”.
An Honest Life is produced by Anna Anthony for FLX. Pontus Edgren, Joshua Mehr, Joakim Zander, and Astri von Arbin Ahlander are attached to the project as executive producers.
