11 January 2024São Paulo, January 11, 2024 — Luz won't be alone on her adventure in search of her origins. She'll be joined by a hardcore group of students, teachers and staff from the Prex school. The official teaser and previously unreleased photos offer a glimpse of what's to come in Netflix's Brazilian series for kids and families to watch together, which premieres in February.
Led by protagonist Marianna Santos, the Luz video teaser introduces the main characters of the story and gives us a glimpse of what's in store, unveiling the two worlds in the series: the school, and the Indigenous community where Luz grew up. In addition to the children, the cast also includes Celso Frateschi, Claudia di Moura, Daniel Rocha, Marcos Pasquim, Gabriela Moreyra, and Mel Lisboa, among others.
The series revolves around the journey of Luz (Marianna Santos), an orphan who was raised in the Kaingang community since her infancy, growing up surrounded by Indigenous knowledge and values. That is until the brave young girl turns nine and suspects that something important is being hidden from her. She runs away from the village, eventually finding herself at a boarding school. At school, alongside her new friends, she will seek answers about her true origins.
Produced by Floresta, Luz is the original idea of Guillermo Pendino. Thiago Teitelroit serves as general director, with Giovanna Machline and Rogério Sagui also as episode directors. The script was written by André Rodrigues, Ana Durães, Tereza Temer (scriptwriters) and Nara Marinho (script assistant). The cast also includes Alice Gattai, Aramis Trindade, Bruno Gadiol, Cassio Dutra, Dandara Albuquerque, Diego Cavalcanti, Emilio Farias, Enzo Lizardo, Francisco Galvão, Gabriel Cano, Julianne Trevisol, Kauezinho, Lena Roque, Luciano Andrey, Luísa Moribe, Mari Campolongo, Mauricio Destri, Mayara Constantino, Miá Mello, Paulo Rocha, Sophia Rosa, Thiago Soares, Victor Barros and Yasmin Berti.
MEET THE CHARACTERS:
LUZ (Marianna Santos): is curious, determined and extremely brave. She is a granddaughter rejected and persecuted by her grandfather, Carlos. She is very proud of her Kaingang upbringing, but longs to meet her biological family. She finds refuge and new friends at the Prex school.
CARLOS FERREIRA (Celso Frateschi): Luz's grandfather. A rich and mean ranch owner. He has a tense relationship with the Kaingang. BALTAZAR (Marcos Pasquim): works on the ranch and is the righthand man of Luz's grandfather, Carlos. He finds himself on his boss's bad side for being fair and loyal to the young girl. VALÉRIA (Mel Lisboa): is also an employee at Carlos Ferreira's ranch. She becomes the rancher's most trusted person and her loyalty to Carlos is tested. GA (Claudia Di Moura): is the leader of the Indigenous community and a Kaingang shaman. She adopts Luz and becomes her main caregiver and protector. She is fair, brave and passes on ancestral knowledge.
PREX SCHOOL EMPLOYEES
From left to right: PROFESSOR PIETRO (Emilio Farias); PROFESSOR GENTIL (Cássio Dutra) — the class's physical education teacher; PRINCIPAL ISABELA (Dandara Albuquerque) — the principal authority at the Prex school in Brazil. Serious and intimidating, but she is hiding a secret in her personal life; PROFESSOR MARCOS (Daniel Rocha) — a biology teacher and fourth grade tutor. He is a plant enthusiast and responsible for the school's greenhouse. Kind, dedicated and loving towards both plants and people; KELLY (Miá Mello) — overprotective and over the top, she is Otávio's mother and president of the Prex school's Parent-Teacher Association; PROFESSOR GAEL (Maurício Destri) — a mathematician who is strategic and willing to do anything to get what he wants; PROFESSOR HELÔ (Mayara Constantino) — teaches theater and the arts.
PREX SCHOOL STUDENTS
SABINA (Mari Campolongo): an intelligent student, but a bit prickly, serious and inquisitive. She doesn't get on well with Joca, and they are always fighting. ADRI (Yasmin Berti): the top of her class and very competitive. She loves exercising. MIGUEL (Kauezinho): known for being lively and funny. He's obsessed with social media and his followers.
JOCA (Francisco Galvão): Luz's new best friend. Helpful and courageous, but a bit of a troublemaker, he's always having disagreements with Sabina. NIC (Alice Gattai): introspective, she is a fan of darker subjects, and she becomes Luz's new ally. OTÁVIO (Gabriel Cano): has a persecution complex and tries to escape his overbearing mother, Kelly. LIA (Luísa Moribe): really talented and dreams of becoming a superhero.
