What happens when greed and power-hungry ambition meets “creative accounting” and risky behavior? Felix Armand (Thomas Schubert), the almost-CEO of start-up Cable Cash, will do absolutely anything to climb that final step to the top. While his boss Magnus (Matthias Brandt) basks in the spotlight, Felix is in the background, holding up a crumbling wall against the mafia, the investors, the regulatory bodies, and short sellers. You know what they say – fake it till you make it. While he’s digging himself into an ever-deeper hole of doctored accounts, floating the company on the stock market becomes a risky tightrope walk and the hyped stocks of Cable Cash AG are fast turning into over-inflated stonks – or are they?
King of Stonks is the new series from btf (bildundtonfabrik), the makers of young-adult hit How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) and the Shiny Flakes documentary. It tells a story riddled with absurdity and yet shockingly authentic in its depiction of narcissism, megalomania, and double standards in the business world. The series celebrates its world premiere on June 25 at the Munich International Film Festival, which will be attended by lead actors Matthias Brandt, Thomas Schubert and Larissa Sirah Herden, as well as showrunners Philipp Käßbohrer, Matthias Murmann and director Jan Bonny. The series airs worldwide on Netflix from July 6.
About King of Stonks
Felix Armand wants to make it to the top. He wants to be the CEO of the biggest fucking FinTech firm in Europe. But just when he wants to float the company, everything seems to collapse around him. Money laundering, investor fraud, internet pornography… Everything’s on him. Meanwhile, his megalomaniac boss Magnus is swanning around in the spotlight. And, as if things weren’t bad enough, Felix falls for the one woman he needs to stay away from, short seller Sheila Williams.
