Berlin, March 28, 2024: Crooks, Marvin Kren's new series starring Frederick Lau and Christoph Krutzler, will debut in one week. Crooks is a wild mix of the gangster, action, buddy film and road-movie genres, a "Bud Spencer and Terence Hill in Noir” (Kren), a daring escape from Berlin through Vienna to Marseille.

Crooks is about "friendship under intense pressure, comradeship, family, and the right life in the wrong environment," explains showrunner, writer and director Marvin Kren in the digital press release.

This long weekend is the perfect time to get in the mood for a relaxing binge watch. Other series and movies available on Netflix that will put you in a road movie and bromance mood over Easter include:

  1. The End of the F**ing World

In this dark comedy series based on the graphic novel, a psychopathic teenager and an adventurous rebel embark on an ill-fated road trip. Starring Jessica Barden, Alex Lawther, Naomi Ackie.

  1. Vincent Wants to Sea

Vincent's father puts him in a home to avoid dealing with Vincent's Tourette's syndrome. However, Vincent runs away to scatter his mother's ashes in the sea. Starring Florian David Fitz, Karoline Herfurth, Heino Ferch.

  1. 25 km/h

Two brothers reconnect at their father's funeral and decide to fulfill their childhood dream: a trip through Germany on vintage mopeds. Starring Lars Eidinger, Bjarne Mädel, Sandra Hüller.

  1. Green Book

A sophisticated African American pianist hires a working-class white driver for his concert tour in the segregated Deep South. Starring Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini.

  1. We're the Millers

To pay off his debt to a drug lord, a small-time dealer convinces his neighbors to pose as his family to help him with a smuggling job. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts.

If you can't wait to immerse yourself in Marvin Kren's gangster world, we recommend 4 Blocks (the cast includes Crooks actors Kida Khodr Ramadan, Veysel Gelin and Frederick Lau). Kren has also taken us to Vienna before (albeit 19th century Vienna) in his series Freud (the cast includes Crooks actors Robert Finster, Georg Friedrich and Christoph Krutzler).

Kren's inspiration for Crooks includes 1960 film classic Classe Tous Risques, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Lino Ventura, about "a devoted friendship between two crooks in a brutal criminal world” (Kren) – which is also one of the main themes of Crooks.

About Crooks

Charly and his family live a quiet life in Berlin until his dark past catches up with him. Old associates threaten his family and force him to steal a valuable coin. Joseph, the driver for a Vienna gang, is there to take the loot safely to Austria. However, the carefully crafted plan falls apart, culminating in a deadly shootout. Charly and Joseph find their fates inextricably tangled as they are forced to flee and get Charly's family to safety. In search of themselves and desperately trying to save what's important to them, the two crooks will have to hold their own against gangs from Berlin, Vienna, and Marseille. Their only hope for success is to trust in their friendship with each other. It's the start of an adventurous and action-packed road trip across three countries for the both of them.
