Fryshuset and Netflix Launch New Initiative – The Film Lab Puts Young People Behind the Camera

Fryshuset x Netflix Film Lab

Building on the “Your Way In” collaboration, Netflix and Fryshuset today announced a new initiative to help more young people find their path into the film and TV industry in Sweden.

Through this project, 30 selected participants aged 18 to 26 will collaborate in groups to create short films. They will be mentored through the filmmaking process - from idea to final cut over the course of nine months. The program combines hands-on filmmaking with masterclasses led by industry professionals. The program will conclude in November with the films screened at a networking event for young participants and industry professionals.

The initiative is a development of the existing collaboration “Your Way In” between Netflix and Fryshuset, which aims to lower entry barriers and create a more inclusive film and TV industry in Sweden by helping more young people find their own path into the industry. During 2024–2025, workshops were held in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Helsingborg, where 223 young people had the opportunity to learn from and network with professional film and TV practitioners.

We are happy to take the next step with Netflix to support young people who dream of a future in the film industry. It is very difficult to gain your first practical experience when you are young and do not have the right connections. Thanks to the support of and funding from Netflix, we are now opening even more new pathways into the industry,” says Karl Champ Moalosi Bjurman, Head of Operations for Liv1 and Fryshuset Produktion.

We are proud to further strengthen our partnership with Fryshuset. For the film and TV industry to keep evolving, we need new voices. Through this initiative, we hope even more young people will dare to pursue their dream of a future within TV and film production by helping them gain new skills, hands-on experience, and new industry contacts,“ says Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, Vice President Content, Netflix Nordics.

The program starts on March 25 and concludes in November. The program is now open for applications through this website.
