26 February 2026Premiering globally on Netflix on April 2, Agent from Above is an action-fantasy VFX spectacle inspired by Taoist mythology, adapted from the first installment of Taiwanese author Teensy’s popular novel series “The Oracle Comes”.
Co-directed by Kuan Wei-chieh and Lai Chun-yu, the series brings together a star-studded cast including Kai Ko (Let’s Talk About CHU), Wang Po-chieh (Million-Follower Detective, 96 Minutes), Hsueh Shih-ling (Born for the Spotlight), Buffy Chen (Million-Follower Detective, Wave Makers), Johnny Yang (At the Moment), Chen Yi-wen (The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon), and more. Together, they ignite an epic, fate-driven battle that spans the mortal and immortal realms.
As part of the date announcement, Netflix unveiled a striking first-look poster featuring blazing traditional milk caps. A nostalgic staple of Taiwanese childhood games, often printed with temple gods, folk heroes, and mythological figures, these milk caps are reimagined in the series as enchanted weapons wielded by the Third Crown Prince’s (Wang Po-chieh) appointed spirit medium, Han Chieh (Kai Ko). Serving as conduits of divine power, they are used to battle wandering spirits and demons, unleashing formidable strength to banish evil.
Engulfed in flames and surrounded by a sacred talisman, the milk caps become powerful symbols of faith manifesting in the mortal world, foreshadowing an imminent and explosive clash between light and darkness.
Reflecting on his first impression of the script, Ko said: “When I first read it, I was immediately struck by how unique the concept was. Every character — from the Third Crown Prince to each supporting role — is so vividly defined that the world feels layered and fully realized.
As the Third Crown Prince’s spirit medium, Han Chieh doesn’t truly live for himself. His sole purpose is to carry out the missions entrusted to him, hoping to earn better conditions for his parents as they endure punishment in the underworld. In many ways, the meaning of his existence is redemption.”
Wang portrays the Third Crown Prince in his divine form in the series. Before filming began, he shared that he made a personal visit to a temple in Xizhi dedicated to the deity as a way to pay respect before playing the role of a revered god: “As the Third Crown Prince is a deity, I brought the script to a temple in Xizhi dedicated to Him and spoke to Him first. I said, ‘I’m going to portray You. There is no intention of disrespect. Our interpretation is somewhat distinct from the traditional image, and I hope You can understand.’”
On casting, director Lai shared that Ko possesses a rare authenticity — a youthful defiance coupled with an unyielding energy, tempered by an ability to show disarming vulnerability before the camera. “That emotional duality is precisely the quality Han Chieh demands,” Lai noted.
Director Kuan offered a glimpse into the series’ striking visual scale: “Agent from Above is a fantasy action series that fuses Taiwan’s temple culture with the contemporary world. Audiences will step into a universe that feels instantly recognizable, yet has been completely reimagined. The temples, deities, rituals, and sacred objects we encounter in everyday life are reinterpreted into a bold mythology with a distinct edge.”
He continued, “The series showcases extensive VFX and dynamic fight choreography. But beyond the spectacle, there’s attitude and defiance — a visceral energy that pulses through every frame. At the same time, beneath the action lies a deeper question: how do we confront our own sins and the choices we make, and accept the responsibility that comes with them?”
