Here are some highlights from the December data for the Netflix ISP Speed Index, our monthly update on which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide the best prime-time Netflix streaming experience.
In the U.S., Cablevision, Charter, and Mediacom all rose one spot to third, sixth and seventh place, respectively. Cablevision increased its average monthly speed to 3.80 Mbps in December from 3.74 Mbps last month; Charter rose to 3.71 Mbps from 3.64 Mbps; and Mediacom posted an average monthly speed of 3.68 Mbps, up from 3.60Mbps last month.We continued to see a lot of movement in Japan rankings, with Nifty jumping to first place with an average monthly speed of 3.92 Mbps, up from 3.81 Mbps last month. IIJ jumped seven spots to No. 3 with an average monthly speed of 3.88 Mbps, up from 3.77 Mbps. And Vectant fell to 13th place in the rankings with an average speed of 3.61 Mbps, down from 3.81 Mbps in November.
In Germany, UnityMediaBW dropped, from No. 1 to fifth place with an average monthly speed of 3.79 Mbps, down from 3.99 Mbps in November.
In Colombia, Telmex edged out ETB to regain the top spot, with an average speed of 3.05 Mbps, up from 2.91 Mbps in November. ETB ranked second with an average speed of 3.01 Mbps, up from 2.97 Mbps.
In Italy, Wind fell from second place to fifth with an average speed of 3.32 Mbps, down from 3.42 Mbps in November.
The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
