Building a Dream: Netflix Releases Behind-the-Scenes Footage from 'The Son of a Thousand Men', a Film Starring Rodrigo Santoro, Now Playing

São Paulo, November 24, 2025 — “When you dream big, reality learns,” a line spoken by Crisóstomo in The Son of a Thousand Men. Available worldwide on Netflix, the film starring Rodrigo Santoro has been captivating audiences with its moving story, which invites viewers to reflect on the meaning of family and affection. To bring you a little closer to the behind-the-scenes action and inside stories of this work based on the book of the same name by Valter Hugo Mãe, Netflix is releasing all-new interviews with the cast and crew.

In the video, director and screenwriter Daniel Rezende emphasizes that the film is about “affection and acceptance,” while Santoro explains the dynamics of the story and its characters: “The four characters will meet at some point and form a ‘contemporary’ family. The family we choose,” says the actor, referring to the quartet he forms with Isaura (Rebeca Jamir), Antonino (Johnny Massaro) and Camilo (Miguel Martines). The video also features Azul Serra (director of photography) and Manuela Mello (costume designer), Taísa Malouf (art director), among others.

Shot in Igatu, in the Chapada Diamantina region, and in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, the feature required a crew of more than 150 people and involved members of the local communities. Synopsis: The first adaptation of a best-selling novel by writer Valter Hugo Mãe, the film follows Crisóstomo (Rodrigo Santoro), a lone fisherman who dreams of one day having a son. His life changes when he meets Camilo (Miguel Martines), an orphan boy whom he decides to foster. Meanwhile, as she tries to escape her own pain, Isaura (Rebeca Jamir) encounters the two of them, along with Antonino (Johnny Massaro), a misunderstood young man. Together, the four of them learn about the meaning of family and the purpose of sharing life with others.
