Netflix Showcases the Best of Its European Series Slate at Series Mania

The Netflix Showcase took place today at Series Mania, highlighting series from its upcoming 2023/2024 European slate, accompanied by a panel featuring Damien Couvreur: Vice President, Series, France; Jenny Stjernstromer Bjork: Vice President, Content, Nordics and Katja Hofem: Vice President, Content, DACH. The audience was made up of industry professionals and press from France and across Europe.

The event, hosted by Rebecca Leffler, provided audiences with exclusive insight and a sneak peek of series coming out of France, Germany, the Nordics, Spain and Italy. 

GERMANY: 

  • Ahead of its closing night premiere, audiences were reminded of Transatlantic, from the brilliant writer and director Anna Winger of Unorthodox, set in Marseille in 1940-41 and based on the incredible true story of a resistance group who helped more than 2000 refugees escape occupied France, including many artists and writers on the Nazis’ most-wanted list. 

  • Details were revealed around Germany’s new redemption thriller, Liebes Kind (Dear Child); a comedy about Germany’s first Black Chancellor, Plötzlich Kanzlerin (The Chancellor Diaries WT); and popular returning series spy thriller Kleo and period drama The Empress.  

  • Audiences were treated to exclusive sneak peeks from Criminel (WT), an exciting thriller and Netflix’s second collaboration with Marvin Kren (creator of Freud and 4 Blocks) about rival gangs from Berlin and Vienna. 

  • Followed by a clip from the visually stunning mystery-thriller show Hello (WT) featuring one of Germany’s biggest stars Florian David Fitz launching in early 2024.

NORDICS: 

  • Exclusive clips were featured from Barracuda Queens, a girl gang heist series inspired by true events, from the same producers of Swedish Netflix favorites Quicksand and Love & Anarchy

  • From heists to hospitals, a clip from The Nurse [CLIP] had hearts racing, also based on a true story, is about a Danish nurse who was convicted of attempted manslaughter of four hospital patients.

FRANCE: 

  • Audiences were treated to a clip and photos from, Tapie, a fictionalized account of the meteoric rise and fall of one of the most iconic and controversial French public figures, starring Laurent Lafitte and created by Tristan Séguela and Olivier Demangel. 

  • Next up was a high-octane Fury, an action series, set in the world of organized crime,  with an A-list-French cast including Marina Foïs and Mathieu Kassovitz. 

  • The first images from the thriller Anthracite were also shared. This limited series from Fanny Robert and Maxime Berthemy features two main characters (Hatik, Noémie Schmidt) who investigate a murder linked to a mass suicide in a small village in the Alps that happened 30 years ago. 

  • Finally, news that irreverent political comedy, En Place CLIP], aka Represent and starring beloved French actor, Jean-Pascal Zadi, is back for series 2 was revealed alongside a clip.

Rebecca closed the session with behind the scene footage of the Spanish series Berlin, the highly anticipated spin-off from popular La Casa de Papel, and Italian adult animation This World Can’t Tear Me Down by the beloved Italian cartoonist Michele Rech aka, Zerocalcare. The session closed with an exclusive special behind-the-scenes peak at Lupin Part 3
