15 November 2023November 15, 2023 - Today Making Space announced a partnership with Netflix to expand access to graphic design education for the disability community. The two companies have come together to develop an in-depth tutorial centered on key art creation and focused on giving Disabled artists - including those who are blind or low vision, chronically ill, Deaf or hard of hearing, and neurodivergent - the opportunity to gain in-demand graphic design skills applicable to the film and entertainment industry.
This five-course tutorial teaches essential elements in design including concept, style and lighting, composition, typography, and color and mood, and applies these to film and entertainment, exploring subjects like the evolution of art in film. Each course was developed in line with Netflix’s own design standards and aims to equip disabled artists with the skills to pursue a career in graphic design.
“At Making Space, we’re committed to creating meaningful pathways for those who historically haven’t had the resources to jumpstart their careers. Partnering with Netflix opens the door for Disabled artists, and allows them the opportunity to learn from one of the leading companies in the industry,” said Keely Cat Wells, co-founder and CEO of Making Space.
“As someone who has navigated my career with dyslexia and auditory processing disorder, I know how challenging it can be for disabled artists to break into the industry. Netflix has always empowered me to do my best work and it’s an honor to partner with Making Space to help aspiring designers pursue their dreams,” said Andy Lerma, Design Lead, Netflix
Each course incorporates accessibility features including American Sign Language, captions, speed control and customizable text display. Designers interested in enrolling can apply here.
