29 April 2025São Paulo, April 29, 2025 - The documentary series A Tragedy Foretold: Flight 3054 entered Netflix's Global Top 10 for non-English language series, reaching 4th place worldwide. In Brazil, the show has also been in the national Top 10 since it premiered on Wednesday, April 23. Since its debut, the series has been watched for 9 million hours.
The three-episode series A Tragedy Foretold: Flight 3054 revisits the tragic accident in São Paulo, Brazil, on July 17, 2007. That night, a TAM airplane coming from Porto Alegre overshot the runway upon landing at Congonhas Airport, crossing a roadway and crashing into a building belonging to the same airline. The disaster claimed 199 lives and sparked important discussions about aviation safety in Brazil. The series investigates in detail the chain of events that led to the disaster. It also contextualizes the accident within the so-called aviation crisis, during which Brazil's civil aviation sector experienced instability and other concerns.
Produced by Pródigo Filmes in collaboration with Sobretudo Produção, the series was created by Angelo Defanti. He also directed all three episodes, which were co-written with Fábio Leal. Beto Gauss, Francesco Civita, Bárbara Defanti, and Renata Grynszpan served as executive producers.
