A Beautiful Story About Family, Second Chances, and Love That Overcomes All Differences: ‘Queen’ With Andrzej Seweryn, Maria Peszek, and Julia Chętnicka Debuts June 23

The newest Polish Netflix series, the long-awaited Queen, directed by Łukasz Kośmicki, with Andrzej Seweryn, Maria Peszek, and Julia Chętnicka, will debut in Poland and 190 other countries around the world on June 23.

It's a four-episode, touching story about Sylwester, Wiola, and Iza — a unique family from Silesia in Poland that, despite many obstacles, thanks to a sense of understanding and solidarity, gets a second chance at love, friendship, and acceptance. Queen is above all an optimistic, hopeful, and humorous story about redemption and debunking stereotypes.

Renowned Polish actor Andrzej Seweryn stars in a leading role, which he himself calls the role of a lifetime. He plays both a Parisian tailor, the pedantic Sylwester, and the beautiful and talented drag queen Loretta, who he becomes at the theater. Despite the promise made years ago, Sylwester decides to return to his hometown after receiving a letter from a previously unknown eighteen-year-old granddaughter Iza, played by newcomer Julia Chętnicka.

Iza is a charismatic, sincere, and charming girl who works in the mining cafe, but dreams of becoming a make-up artist. The most important things in her life are friends and her mother Wiola, whom she tries to help by bringing Sylwester to Silesia against her will. Iza hopes that a mother in need of a transplant will accept a kidney from an unknown father with whom she has never had a relationship before. The role of Wiola, a decisive, temperamental, and uncompromising woman, is played by charismatic Polish artist/musician Maria Peszek.

Andrzej Seweryn said: “Queen is a series about family relations and the fact that everything in our history indicates that these relations can not survive. The harm that Sylwester caused Wiola and her mother is unforgivable and irreparable. And yet, their future may be shared.”

When asked what delighted her in this story, Peszek recalls: “I was delighted with the relationship between Wioletta and Sylwester - a daughter and a long-unseen father. Their transformation and mutual maturation.”

Sylwester’s journey to their homeland will take an unexpected turn, forcing all three to face the past, tragedy, and difficult choices, but also giving them a chance to rebuild lost connections. As Sylwester finds out, a family can come in many styles, but each of them requires proper stitching.

The series also features Antoni Porowski, known to fans from the Netflix series, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, who played the role of Sylwester’s assistant in his Paris atelier. In the role of Corentin is a dear friend of Sylwester, Kova Rea. The upporting cast also includes Paweł Koślik, Henryk Niebudek, Piotr Witkowski, Veronique Bisciglia, Lucas Adelon Rembas, Himera, Lucy d'Arc, Bartłomiej Bobrowski aka Graża Grzech, Lola Eyeonyou Potocki, Mariusz Ząbkowski Dżag, Soa de Muse, Keiona and others.
